Creating and configuring your first Worker

A Worker is an AI teammate you hire in Delos. Like a new joiner, it has an identity, a personality, skills, accesses (integrations) and channels to communicate. This article walks you from creation to the point where your Worker is actually operational — and flags the spots where people most often get stuck.

The key idea: creating a Worker takes 2 minutes, but a useful Worker is a well-configured one. Creation lays the foundations; it's afterwards, in its settings panel, that you fine-tune everything.

1. Start the hiring flow

  • Go to Hire a Worker (/hire-worker)
  • You land on a multi-step wizard (the "hiring flow")
The /hire-worker page with the Worker template catalog and the button to start

Two creation modes:

  • Full hire — 6 steps, to configure everything from the start.
  • Quick hire (?quick=1) — 2 steps only (Personality + Integrations). The rest is configured later.

You can also start from a template in the catalog (Sales, Support, Analyst…) which pre-fills the personality and skills.

2. The steps of the flow

Step 1 — Workspace

Choose which workspace (organization) this Worker will be hired into, or create a new one. Required: everything else depends on it.

Step 2 — Communication & Personality (required)

This is the heart of the Worker's identity. You set:

  • Three style sliders:
    • Formal ↔ Casual (tone of messages)
    • Concise ↔ Thorough (length of answers)
    • Ask first ↔ Take action (level of initiative)
  • Personality traits: up to 4 preset traits (direct, warm, curious, patient…) + free-text traits
  • Communication channel: you must select at least one channel (Slack, Teams, Mail, Phone)
Personality step: the 3 sliders, the trait chips and the tone-of-voice preview

⚠️ Common blocker: if you don't select any channel here, the Worker will be created but won't be able to receive any message. You can fix this later in the Communication tab, but it's best to do it right away.

Step 3 — Knowledge (optional)

Give it substance: documents (PDF, Word…), up to 5 web sources to crawl, and knowledge notes. You can skip this step and enrich it later.

Step 4 — Integrations (optional)

Connect the tools the Worker will use (Slack, HubSpot, etc.). → see the dedicated Integrations article.

Step 5 — Skills & Guardrails (optional)

Add skills (procedures, know-how) and autonomy rules (always / ask / never). → see the Behavior Studio and Rules articles.

Step 6 — Recurring tasks (optional)

Schedule repeated work (every day, every week…). Optional.

3. The settings panel: where everything is configured afterwards

Once the Worker is created, open its page. The settings panel (on the right) is organized into tabs. It's your permanent dashboard:

Tab What it's for
Activity Track what the Worker does (tasks, threads, history)
Profile Identity: name, photo, role, email, phone, language, initiative level, managers
Behavior Studio Missions, skills and autonomy rules
Resources Documents and knowledge (Google Drive, SharePoint, files…)
Communication Channels: Mail, Phone/WhatsApp, direct messaging (Slack/Teams/Telegram)
Integrations Connections to third-party tools (catalog + active connections)

4. The manager concept

  • A manager is the (human) person who can configure and steer the Worker.
  • A Worker can have several managers — handy for a team.
  • Assignment is done in the Profile tab.

⚠️ Common blocker: if nobody is a manager, the settings panel becomes read-only for other users ("Only this Worker's manager can change…"). The creator is a manager by default — remember to add your colleagues if needed.

5. Before saying "it's ready": the checklist

A Worker is created with default values, but here's what makes it actually usable:

  • ✅ A name (required)
  • ✅ At least one manager assigned
  • ✅ At least one active communication channel (otherwise it receives nothing)
  • ✅ A personality set (the sliders have "balanced" default values)
  • 🔸 Recommended: skills, connected integrations, a default language, and turning on the safety scan (off by default)

Remember: the "deep" elements (detailed bio, missions, fine personality) are not added automatically — it's up to you to fill them in the Behavior Studio. A Worker with no skills or integrations works, but stays a generalist without tools.

What's next?

  • Behavior Studio & Skills → teach it procedures and tune its autonomy
  • Integrations → connect it to your tools
  • Communication channels → choose how to talk to it (Slack, Teams, Telegram, mail…)
  • Rules → set guardrails (always / ask / never)
