PowerPoint compatibility with Slides exports

If PowerPoint cannot open your file exported from Slides, here are the solutions.

Possible causes

  1. PowerPoint version too old: Recent features are not supported
  2. Incompatible format: Some Slides elements are not PPT compatible
  3. Corrupted file: Export was interrupted or incomplete

Solutions

1. Update PowerPoint

  • Windows: Check Microsoft 365 updates
  • Mac: Update via App Store
  • Minimum version: PowerPoint 2016 or higher recommended

2. Use PowerPoint Online

  1. Open OneDrive: Go to onedrive.live.com
  2. Upload the file: Import your PPT file
  3. Open in PowerPoint Online: Free and compatible version
  4. Download: If it works, download to your computer

3. Export to PDF

  1. Export to PDF from Slides: Universally compatible format
  2. Open in PowerPoint: PowerPoint can open PDFs
  3. Convert to PPT: Use PowerPoint's "Save As" function

4. Reduce complexity

  • Fewer slides: Export 10-15 slides at a time
  • Simplify animations: Remove complex animations
  • Use standard fonts: Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman

Incompatible elements

Some Slides elements may not appear in PPT:
