Import your conversations and projects from Claude

There are two imports, in two different places, and each requires a different file.

What you importWhereFile to provide
ConversationsAssistantconversations.json (extracted from conversations-000.zip)
ProjectsProjectsprojects-000.zip as is, without unzipping it

1. Get your Claude export

On claude.ai: Settings → Privacy → Export data. Claude sends an email with a link. The export contains several separate archives, including conversations-000.zip and projects-000.zip.

2. Import conversations (in Assistant)

  1. Open Assistant, click the Import conversations icon at the top of the home screen, then choose Claude.
  2. Unzip conversations-000.zip and provide the conversations.json file inside it. The zip itself is not accepted.
  • Only conversation text is imported. Tool calls and attachments are ignored. Artifacts (code, generated documents) are kept in the message.
  • Imported conversations appear at the top of recent conversations. Importing the same file again does not create duplicates.

3. Import projects (in Projects)

  1. Click New project. At the bottom of the window, next to “Already on Claude or ChatGPT?”, click Import with the Claude logo.
  2. Provide projects-000.zip as is, without unzipping it. A .json file is not accepted here.
  3. Select the projects to import (all are selected by default). Each becomes a Delos project with its instructions and documents.
  • Claude's example project and empty projects are ignored.
  • A project with a name that already exists is marked “Already present” and is not imported again.

4. Good to know

Claude's export does not say which project each conversation belongs to. Conversations are therefore not placed in the imported projects: you need to add them to the project manually afterward.

My file is grayed out

  • .json grayed out in Projects: this is the conversations file; it belongs in Assistant.
  • .zip grayed out in Assistant: unzip it first and provide conversations.json.
